Nova

Nova is a domestic breed of pigeon called a racing homer. Before coming to live with me, she was exploited by the “sport” of pigeon racing. After being injured in a race in the summer of 2019, Nova found her way to our local wildlife rehabilitation hospital. From there, she was transferred to the humane society, who attempted to contact her owner. Due to her injury, the owner asked to have her euthanized. Instead, the humane society called me. In this photo taken shortly after her arrival, you can see the rings on her legs linking her to a former life as a racer.

As a result of her racing injury, Nova can no longer extend her right wing. Although she can no longer fly, Nova has a big personality and has adjusted beautifully to life with a disability. She is happy and healthy, with an enclosure built to suit her needs. To keep up with Nova’s progress, you can follow her on her very own instagram account!
